ILOILO — Mayor Raisa Treñas led the groundbreaking ceremony for a new 450-square-meter General Services Office (GSO) Warehouse, marking a significant step toward modernizing government operations. The facility, located along Fort San Pedro Drive, promises more organized and secure management of city assets.

Solving Storage and Cost Challenges

The existing storage facilities of the city government are already at full capacity, forcing the city to rent additional private warehouse spaces. This fragmented approach leads to higher costs and complicates inventory monitoring. The new warehouse will consolidate supplies, equipment, and other goods into one central, secure location.

By bringing all assets under one roof, the city will streamline its logistics and reduce operational expenses. The elimination of external warehouse rentals will result in significant savings for the city budget. These funds can then be redirected to other essential public services and programs.

Modernizing Asset Management

Starting next year, the facility will be maximized through a computerized inventory, tagging, and barcoding system. This digital upgrade will strengthen monitoring and help prevent damage or loss of government property. It represents a major leap from manual logging to corporate-grade supply chain management.

The system will allow for real-time tracking of every piece of municipal property, from office equipment to maintenance tools. This level of accountability ensures that taxpayer-funded assets are protected and used efficiently. The modernization aligns with Mayor Treñas' vision for a transparent and responsive government.

Preparing for Health and Emergencies

The city government is also preparing for the construction of dedicated warehouse facilities for the City Health Office. This specialized storage will feature temperature-controlled areas for medical supplies, ensuring vaccines and medicines are kept safe. This is a critical investment in public health infrastructure.

Furthermore, a separate warehouse is planned for emergency goods to support the City Social Welfare and Development Office and the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office. This will allow for the pre-positioning of relief packs and rescue equipment for rapid deployment during calamities. These projects demonstrate a holistic approach to city governance and preparedness.

A Commitment to Efficient Public Service

The new GSO warehouse is part of the Iloilo City Government's RISE to ACTION framework. The project directly improves internal systems to ensure government resources are properly managed for more efficient public service. The completion is targeted for December 23, 2026.
