ILOILO CITY — The Department of Social Welfare and Development Field Office VI joined the Iloilo City Government in celebrating the 4Ps Family Day 2026 at the La Paz Football Field. The event carried the theme "United Homes, Empowered Futures," bringing together Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program beneficiaries from across the city.
A Celebration of Family and Community
The gathering marked the first 4Ps Family Day in seven years. Families from various districts came together for a day of dance competitions, traditional Filipino games, and community bonding. The event highlighted the program's role in strengthening family ties and promoting child well-being.
Regional Director Joselito G. Estember was scheduled as a guest speaker but could not attend due to an urgent matter. His message was delivered by Information Officer II Montesa G. Caoyonan. Estember expressed appreciation to Mayor Raisa Treñas-Chu for her administration's strong support for Ilonggo families.
DSWD's Message of Empowerment
In his message, Estember emphasized that 4Ps is not simply about receiving cash grants. He described it as an investment in human development, particularly in education, health, nutrition, and the eventual self-sufficiency of Filipino families. He cited Secretary Rex Gatchalian's reminder that social protection must lead people toward better and more dignified lives.
The director challenged parents to make every assistance count. He urged them to send their children to school, protect their health, and teach them discipline, compassion, and responsibility. He also advised young people to dream beyond their present circumstances, stressing that education and perseverance can open doors that poverty once seemed to close.
Mayor Treñas Pledges Expanded Support
Mayor Raisa Treñas-Chu reaffirmed her commitment to 4Ps beneficiaries. She announced that graduating senior high school students can now access the Uswag Scholarship Program for college education. For those interested in technical and vocational courses, the Technical Institute of Iloilo City offers training with start-up kits upon completion.
The mayor also highlighted the HAPLOS Program, which provides up to ₱50,000 in hospitalization assistance and ₱10,000 in laboratory assistance. The MediSen+ Program offers free maintenance medicines for senior citizens and persons with disabilities. The Atipan Center at City Hall serves as a one-stop shop for financial, burial, livelihood, education, and health services.
Dance Competition and Larong Pinoy
Seven 4Ps groups from different districts showcased their talents in a field demonstration. The City Proper team emerged as champion, winning ₱20,000. The La Paz/Lapuz team placed second with ₱14,000, while the Arevalo team took third place with ₱10,000. Consolation prize winners received ₱6,000 each.
The celebration continued with traditional Larong Pinoy games at the La Paz Plaza grounds. These activities brought families together in fun and camaraderie, reinforcing the community spirit that defines the 4Ps program. Beneficiary Cecile Astornino shared that the event brought joy to her family and taught her the importance of teamwork.
