IMUS CITY, CAVITE - is currently hosting a free softball and baseball coaching clinic at the Imus Track Oval, organized by the Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines (ASAPHIL) in partnership with coaches from the Philippine Blu-Boys, to help develop the skills of local youth and grassroots coaches. The program, part of ongoing efforts to revive the sport in Cavite, is taking place at the City of Imus Grandstand and Track Oval, a venue inaugurated in October 2018 that has also hosted major events like the 2019 SEA Games football matches.
A Return to Cavite's Softball Roots
The clinic at the Imus Track Oval, located in Barangay Malagasang 1-G, builds on recent efforts to revive softball in Cavite . The sport was once a powerhouse in the province during the 1970s and 1980s, producing many members of the Philippine national team, the Blu Boys. Mayor Alex Advincula previously revived the sport by hosting the 1st AJAA Cup inter-barangay softball tournament at the same venue, and this clinic continues that commitment to grassroots development.
The venue itself is a significant sports facility in the province. The City of Imus Grandstand and Track Oval has a seating capacity of 4,800 and was one of the venues for men's football at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games . It also served as the home stadium for Mendiola 1991 in the Philippines Football League.
What Participants Can Expect
The coaching clinic, led by coaches from the Philippine Blu-Boys, the national softball team, focuses on teaching fundamental skills and proper techniques to young athletes and grassroots coaches. Participants are learning the basics of throwing, catching, batting, and fielding, as well as game strategies and safety protocols. The event provides an opportunity for local talent to learn from national-level coaches and potentially be scouted for future competitions.
