MAKATI CITY — Mark Bumgarner has returned to Power Plant Mall with a ready-to-wear collection that translates his signature couture craftsmanship into pieces designed for daily life. The Holiday 2026 line, titled “After Hours,” is now available at a dedicated pop-up space on the R2 Level of the Rockwell mall, running until January 5, 2027. It marks a deliberate step toward establishing a distinct identity for the designer’s ready-to-wear business, which he operates alongside his partner Earl Semitara. The collection offers refined, feminine silhouettes that carry the hallmarks of Bumgarner’s atelier while embracing a more relaxed and versatile approach to dressing.
A Collection Inspired by a Muse’s Real Life
The idea for “After Hours” took shape during a late-night fitting with actress Anne Curtis, a longtime friend and muse of the designer. Curtis expressed a desire for clothing that could keep pace with her busy schedule, whether she was heading to an impromptu dinner, moving between events, or packing for a trip. She wanted to look polished without having to plan an entire outfit around a single occasion. That conversation became the starting point for the collection, prompting Bumgarner and his team to rethink how the label’s signature design elements could fit seamlessly into an everyday wardrobe.
Couture Techniques, Everyday Pieces
Despite its more accessible format, “After Hours” retains the detailed workmanship associated with Bumgarner’s couture creations. Each garment is produced by the same team behind his custom pieces, ensuring consistency in quality and construction. The collection features sculptural shapes, waist-cinching corsetry, and intricate embellishments that have become trademarks of his work. Relaxed dresses share the lineup with tailored separates and menswear ensembles, allowing wearers to build outfits that transition easily from daytime engagements to evening plans. Hand-cut fabric paillettes, hand-beaded fringe, embellished denim, and three-dimensional floral appliqués bring texture and dimension to the designs. Some fabrics were sourced during the designer’s travels, while textures from earlier collections have been revisited for this more relaxed offering.
Limited Quantities, Timeless Appeal
Rather than producing large quantities, the label is keeping most styles limited to two or three pieces per size and color, preserving a sense of exclusivity for buyers. This approach reflects Bumgarner’s commitment to thoughtful production and his belief that ready-to-wear can carry the same care and intention as couture. The pop-up at Power Plant Mall provides a tangible space for customers to experience the collection firsthand, try on pieces, and appreciate the detailing up close. For Makati residents and visitors, it offers a rare opportunity to engage with Filipino design excellence in a setting that feels both approachable and refined.
