ILOILO — The Iloilo City Government, the Department of Justice (DOJ), and the Supreme Court signed a Deed of Donation and Memorandum of Agreement on August 25, 2026. The agreement marks a major step toward establishing a new Hall of Justice and Prosecution Complex in Barangay San Pedro, Molo.
A Strategic Donation for Justice
The city is donating 7,000 square meters of prime city-owned property near the Iloilo River Esplanade. Of this, 4,000 square meters will be allocated for the Supreme Court to build the new Hall of Justice. The remaining 3,000 square meters will house the DOJ's Regional, Provincial, and City Prosecutors' Offices.
Mayor Raisa S. Treñas led the ceremony, joined by Justice Secretary Frederick A. Vida and Supreme Court Court Administrator Justice Ma. Theresa Dolores C. Gomez-Estoesta. The event underscored a shared commitment to strengthening the foundations of justice in the community.
Bringing Courts Closer to the People
Mayor Treñas emphasized that this is not simply a land transaction. She described it as a concrete step toward strengthening institutions that uphold justice. The donation puts a public asset to its highest and most meaningful use for the public good.
"For someone seeking justice, a court is not simply a building," Treñas said. "It can be the place where a family finds resolution, where rights are protected, and where due process is upheld." Her words highlight the human impact behind the institutional investment.
A Partnership for the Rule of Law
Justice Secretary Vida and Court Administrator Gomez-Estoesta lauded the collaboration. They emphasized that the partnership will bring justice services closer to the public and enhance institutional capacity in Western Visayas. The unified effort reflects a shared responsibility to serve the Filipino people.
Former Mayor Jerry Treñas was also present, acknowledging the strong legal foundation he helped build. The Sangguniang Panlungsod had authorized the necessary agreements in a Special Session on August 20. This careful preparation ensures the undertaking is done properly and in accordance with law.

The city government is committed to having these facilities established within the next three to five years. The donation is framed as a "New Home for the Rule of Law," a concrete contribution to sustaining justice for Ilonggos and the broader community.
