ILOILO — The West Visayas State University Medical Center and the Stroke Society of the Philippines – Iloilo Chapter are inviting everyone to join Run Against Stroke 2026 on September 6 at SM City Iloilo. The advocacy run aims to raise awareness that every step counts in preventing stroke and saving lives.
A Race with a Lifesaving Message
The event carries the powerful slogan, “Every Step Saves a Brain. Every Step Can Save a Life.” Organizers hope that each kilometer run will spark conversations about stroke prevention, hypertension control, and healthier lifestyles. The race transforms individual fitness goals into a collective movement for community wellness.
Stroke remains a leading cause of death and disability nationwide, often striking without warning. Medical experts stress that conditions like high blood pressure, if left unmanaged, dramatically increase the risk. Physical activity, such as running, plays a critical role in keeping blood vessels healthy and reducing that risk.
Distances for Every Runner
Participants can choose from four categories designed for all fitness levels. The 3‑kilometer and 5‑kilometer routes offer a gentle introduction for beginners and families, with registration fees of ₱499 and ₱799 respectively. Both include an acrylic finisher’s medal, race bib, dry‑fit shirt, and hydration.
For those seeking a challenge, the 10‑kilometer (₱1,099) and 16‑kilometer (₱1,499) distances come with a premium metal finisher’s medal. All participants will receive snacks and drinks to refuel after the race. The tiered pricing ensures that cost does not prevent anyone from joining the cause.
A Morning of Community and Action
The event kicks off at four in the morning with a warm‑up routine. The 16‑kilometer runners will lead the starting waves, followed by the shorter distances, culminating in an awarding ceremony. The early schedule allows participants to enjoy the city streets before the heat of the day.
Gathering at SM City Iloilo provides a central, accessible venue that encourages spectators and supporters to cheer. The run fosters a shared spirit of unity against stroke, bringing together health professionals, running clubs, and families. Each footstep becomes a pledge to prioritize personal and public health.
