With the help of the City Environmental & Natural Resources Office (CENRO) and as part of the ongoing care for our public parks, Samonte Park conducted park maintenance through cleaning and uprooting wild weeds in the planter boxes in preparation for planting flowering ornamental plants . This simple activity is a big step toward a cleaner, more colorful, and more welcoming environment for every Caviteño and visitor to our city.
A Continuing Commitment to Park Maintenance
The City Environmental and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) serves as the lead steward for the preservation and protection of natural resources, including managing city parks for safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation experiences . Their recent maintenance activity at Samonte Park focuses on preparing planter boxes for ornamental planting by cleaning and removing wild weeds.
Maintaining public parks involves regular care including weeding, pruning, and seasonal planting to keep these spaces safe, functional, and beautiful . Removing weeds is an essential part of park maintenance, as weeds compete with ornamental plants for nutrients, moisture, and sunlight.
Samonte Park is built on the site of the former western wall and Porta Vaga Gate, two key parts of the Spanish-era fortifications of Cavite City's historic core . The park is named after Governor Ramon Quijano Samonte, the first governor of Cavite under the Commonwealth government . It has become a cultural and recreational center that also preserves historical artifacts like the Ermita de Porta Vaga and a monument to Rizal.
