AL KHOBAR, Saudi Arabia — Filipino artists based in Al Khobar joined international creatives at the three-day "Art Through the Spirit of a Nation" exhibition, held September 23 to 25, 2026, at Somerset Downtown Al Khobar. The event celebrated Saudi Arabia's 96th National Day and showcased works inspired by the theme "Our Pride Is Our Nature."
A Celebration of Art and National Pride
The exhibition brought together more than 20 artists from Saudi Arabia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Pakistan, India, Malaysia, and Romania. Each participant interpreted Saudi identity, culture, landscapes, and everyday life through their own creative lens. The gathering highlighted how art can bridge nationalities and foster mutual appreciation.
Organized by M.Y. Holdings, the event transformed Somerset Downtown Al Khobar into a vibrant gallery. Visitors from diverse backgrounds toured the displays, engaging with artworks that reflected both personal heritage and shared human experiences. The three-day run allowed ample time for meaningful cultural exchange.
Filipino Artists in the Spotlight
Several Al Khobar-based Filipino artists exhibited their works, including Jose Rex Navarrosa, Ysmael Raul Salanguste, Wellington Somera Jr., Marcelino Gallos Gado, and Dan Abante Calisura. Their pieces stood alongside those of Saudi and other international creatives, drawing praise from attendees and organizers alike.
For the Filipino community in the Eastern Province, the exhibition offered a rare platform to showcase their talent on a public stage. It allowed overseas workers to participate in celebrating their host country's culture through their own artistic expressions. Their participation strengthened the bonds between Filipino residents and their Saudi neighbors.
Saudi Official Praises International Talent
Abdulaziz Al-Subaie, President of Nokhba Hawi Platform for Visual Arts, attended the event and expressed strong support for nurturing artists from different nationalities. The platform operates under the KSA Ministry of Culture's Quality of Life Program. His presence added prestige to the gathering.
Al-Subaie, a calligrapher, poet, and specialist in wood-burning art, commended the Filipino artists for their creativity and craftsmanship. His recognition underscored the exhibition's role in promoting cross-cultural dialogue and mutual respect through the universal language of art.
A Community Effort Behind the Scenes
Happy Sandscapes, a Filipina-run lifestyle digital platform and community group, co-organized the exhibition as its marketing partner. The group described the project as a chance to promote artists and bring people together through creativity, culture, and shared experiences.
Filipino content creators and vloggers were tapped to document the exhibit and share it online, extending the stories behind the artworks to audiences beyond the gallery. Their efforts amplified the event's reach, allowing more people to appreciate the talent on display.
Inspiring Future Generations
The exhibition also set aside space for young artists and students from Almajd International School, Al Hussan Schools, and Wonder Minds. Their participation ensured that the creative torch passes to the next generation, encouraging young minds to explore artistic expression.
Families, students, and community members of various nationalities visited the gallery throughout the three days. The inclusive atmosphere reflected the event's core message: art belongs to everyone, regardless of background or nationality.
