Teams Are Being Positioned Where They Are Needed
BACOLOD - Bacolod has three public cemeteries—Barangay Granada, Burgos Public Cemetery, and Handumanan—where many families are expected to gather during Undas. Although Burgos Public Cemetery is no longer accepting new burials, visitors are still expected to come to remember relatives and loved ones. To make emergency assistance more accessible, DRRMO personnel and private volunteers will be deployed in teams at Burgos and Handumanan. Personnel and volunteers are also being assigned with consideration for where they live, helping make deployment more practical for responders.
Preparation Brings Different Agencies Together
Undas involves more than cemetery operations. Large numbers of visitors can affect traffic, emergency response, and the movement of people around surrounding communities. The city has already conducted an interagency meeting to discuss preparations, while traffic personnel have also been included in the deployment plan. The DRRMO is set to operate under red alert status from October 30 through November 2, reflecting the city's readiness for the period when cemetery visits are expected to increase.
Simple Precautions Can Make Visits Safer
Families can also contribute to a safer Undas by preparing before leaving home. Visitors are encouraged to bring drinking water, particularly during periods of hot weather, and to keep children within sight in crowded areas. People with health concerns may benefit from limiting prolonged exposure to heat and taking breaks when necessary. With emergency teams ready, traffic personnel deployed, and volunteers assisting communities, Bacolod is preparing not only for a busy Undas but for one where families can focus on remembering their loved ones while knowing that safety support is nearby.
