MAKATI CITY — For one month every June, Makati transforms into a sprawling, open-air concert hall where music belongs to everyone. Fête de la Musique Philippines returned for its 32nd edition in 2026, turning the global French musical tradition into a massive, community-led cultural movement. Under the theme “For the People, By the People,” the festival featured 123 free music events across 34 locations nationwide. At its heart was Makati, hosting the Main Stage, the French Market, and the beloved Pocket Stages that brought the city’s streets to life.
A Main Stage That United French and Filipino Sounds
The festival’s crown jewel, the FêtePH2026 Main Stage, took over Ayala Triangle Gardens on June 20. The lineup was a stellar mix of OPM heavyweights and international acts. Crowd-favorites Lola Amour, Radioactive Sago Project, Morobeats, and the Jewelmer Jazz Band headlined the celebration. Adding global flair, French krautrock trio Meule and French-Vietnamese harpist Héloïse La Harpe performed as part of their Asian tours. The Main Stage was a vibrant exchange of Filipino and French music and culture, drawing thousands of fans from across the metro.
A City-Wide Celebration on the Streets of Makati
Beyond the Main Stage, the festival truly shined with the return of the Pocket Stages on June 26. Music spilled into the streets, with intimate, genre-specific gigs taking over bars and creative spaces across the city. From jazz to punk, these deeply localized performances turned the city into a living, breathing music venue. The Pocket Stages were a celebration of Makati's vibrant community, proving that the city's creative spaces are just as important as its main stage.
More Than Music: A Festival for the Community
Fête de la Musique 2026 was more than just concerts. The month-long celebration kicked off on June 10 with “Music Heals,” a wellness and sound healing festival. French pianist Maxime Zecchini held two intimate performances at Raffles Makati and the Alliance Française de Manille. The festival also featured the Asia-France Music Bridge Workshops, a crucial networking event for creative entrepreneurs and emerging artists. The Taste of France French Market along Paseo de Roxas added a culinary dimension with authentic French gastronomic specialties, wine, and artisanal goods.
A Nationwide Movement Rooted in Makati
Fête de la Musique has evolved into a true “community of communities,” uniting artists and music lovers from Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao. The festival remained completely free, embodying its theme of community-led celebration. Makati served as the perfect host, a city that embraces both global culture and local talent. By bringing French tradition to Filipino streets, Fête de la Musique has become a beloved cultural phenomenon, and Makati stands at its heart.
