A Field Built for Young Dreams
BACOLOD - The Philippine Football Federation is supervising the installation of a 7,490-square-meter football field at the Bacolod City National High School oval. The PHP50-million facility will feature artificial turf and professional-grade lighting, creating a dedicated venue for football activities in the city. According to the report, the pitch has met FIFA standards, while its lighting system uses a lifting mechanism that allows the lights to be raised and lowered instead of remaining permanently fixed. For young football players, having a proper playing surface close to home could make regular training and competition more accessible.
Batang Pinoy Brings Young Athletes Together
The facility is also being prepared for Batang Pinoy 2026, which will be held in Bacolod from December 12 to 18. The national grassroots competition is designed for athletes aged 8 to 15 and will feature 30 sports, giving young competitors opportunities to test their skills against athletes from different parts of the country. Football and futsal are among the sports included in the competition, alongside athletics, swimming, basketball, badminton, chess, cycling, gymnastics, volleyball, weightlifting, and many others. For Bacolod's young athletes, the event can be more than a week of competition—it can be a chance to experience a national sporting environment and see what they might accomplish with continued training.
The Real Win Could Come After the Games
Bacolod has hosted Batang Pinoy three times before, making the return of the national competition another chapter in the city's sports history. The new football pitch adds something that can remain useful after the athletes and delegations go home, particularly if it continues to support training, school competitions, local leagues, and youth programs. A quality sports facility can give children a reason to spend more time practicing a sport while creating opportunities for coaches, schools, clubs, and communities to develop young talent. With a FIFA-standard field now becoming part of Bacolod's sports landscape, the most exciting possibility may be what happens when the Batang Pinoy spotlight moves on and the next generation keeps playing.
