MAKATI CITY — Tucked behind Valero Plaza in Salcedo Village at Unit G2 of the Valero Plaza Condominium on 124 San Agustin Street, Baker on East has become one of Makati's most sought-after pastry destinations. What started as a home-based passion project by brothers Chino and Gio Cruz, alongside partner Josh Co, has blossomed into a café celebrated for its inventive doughnuts, small-batch pastries, and specialty coffee. Chino, an editor-turned-baker, initially developed recipes for cakes and pastries to give away to friends, only adding doughnuts to appease his brother Gio, a self-confessed doughnut lover. The moment he made them available, demand skyrocketed, and the rest is history.
Rotational Doughnuts and Creative Pastries
At the heart of Baker on East’s offerings is a signature doughnut base, soft with a good bit of bounce, delivering both body and a satisfying chew. This Japanese-style milk bread base, with its chewy consistency and soft, hydrated center, serves as the perfect canvas for the café's lush jam and custard fillings. Flavors rotate regularly, keeping the lineup fresh and exciting for returning guests.
A Bright and Inviting Neighborhood Space
The café is bathed in natural light from its nearly floor-to-ceiling windows, creating a bright and welcoming atmosphere perfect for unwinding with a latte or getting some work done. Guests consistently praise the cozy ambiance, friendly and knowledgeable staff, and well-lit interior. However, due to its popularity, finding available seating can be challenging during peak hours. Baker on East is open Sunday through Thursday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, and Friday and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 12:00 AM. Doughnuts are available Wednesday through Sunday and often sell out by afternoon. For more information, visit their Instagram (@bakeroneast) or Facebook page.
