On July 28, 2026, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) Angeles City officially supported the Ceremonial Inauguration of the Reading Center and Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Barangay Ninoy Aquino, Angeles City, Pampanga. This multi-sectoral initiative was launched to drive community development by simultaneously addressing educational accessibility and ecological waste management.
A Multi-Sectoral Partnership for Community Progress
The dual-purpose facilities were built and launched through a joint collaboration involving the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) Library and Cooperative, alongside the Angeles City Cooperative Development Council. This partnership reflects a shared commitment to addressing two critical community needs: access to educational resources and effective ecological waste management. The DILG Angeles City's support for the project aligns with its ongoing efforts to promote environmental responsibility and local governance, which includes its annual Barangay Environmental Compliance Audit (BECA) to evaluate barangay compliance with environmental laws and promote best practices in solid waste management and other environmental programs.
Literacy and Sustainability: Two Sides of the Same Coin
The newly inaugurated Reading Center offers an inviting space tailored to support community learning, provide academic materials, and cultivate lifelong literacy among local residents. This initiative helps bridge the gap in educational accessibility, particularly in areas where resources may be limited. Complementing the Reading Center is the integrated Material Recovery Facility (MRF), which serves as a neighborhood-level hub to manage, segregate, and recycle local waste effectively.
