PAMPANGA - A coordinated disaster response effort has delivered essential aid to over 4,000 Aeta residents in Porac and Floridablanca whose livelihoods have been severely disrupted by continuous rains. The relief operation, led by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and the Provincial Government of Pampanga, provided each recipient with DSWD food packs, slippers, and 10 kilograms of rice from the Capitol and national government, while residents in Barangay Nabuclod received additional hygiene kits. The Aeta communities, considered among the earliest inhabitants of the Philippines, have faced challenges from decades of deforestation and mining that have steadily decreased their population, making this assistance especially critical for their survival and well-being.
Government and Local Officials Unite for Relief Mission
The distribution was overseen by Provincial Board Members Fritzie David-Dizon, Atty. Claire Lim, and Sajid Eusoof, alongside Floridablanca Mayor Michael Galang, with support from the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO), Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), and the General Services Office (GSO). This effort comes as the DSWD maintains a nationwide stockpile of over 3.8 million family food packs and PHP 715.25 million in quick response funds to sustain disaster operations across the country.
Sustained Commitment to Indigenous Communities
The relief operation demonstrates the government's continued commitment to protecting indigenous communities, who have shown remarkable resilience in adapting to social, economic, and environmental pressures while preserving their cultural heritage. By providing immediate relief and ensuring that basic needs are met, the government is helping these communities recover and rebuild. This initiative is part of a larger ongoing effort to support the most vulnerable sectors of Pampanga, ensuring that no community is left behind during times of crisis.
