BUTUAN CITY — Drive out of the city for about half an hour and the road begins to climb into Camayahan, where the noise thins and the air changes. At the end of that short trip sits Kinaiyahan Cool Point, a privately run swimming retreat built around a natural spring. It is small by resort standards, unassuming in its presentation, and entirely content to let the water and the greenery do the talking.
Spring Water Under Coconut Trees
The pool at the center of the property is fed by spring water, which keeps it cool even in the middle of a dry afternoon. Coconut trees stand over much of the grounds, throwing shade across the seating areas and softening the glare. Visitors settle into cottages or rented tables, spread out their food, and let children take over the pool while the adults talk. The setting photographs well, and it has become a familiar backdrop for weekend pictures among local families.
A Place With a Family Behind It
The retreat exists because one man decided his barangay needed something to offer. The late Federico Estaniel Rambuyon spent years drawing up plans and overseeing the construction himself, with the aim of establishing the first resort in the area and creating work for relatives and neighbors. He did not live to see it fully flourish, but the family carried on, and the property remains in their hands. That continuity shows in how the place is run: personal, hands-on, and slower to change than a corporate operation might be.
How to Plan a Visit
The grounds open daily from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and guests usually arrive in the morning to claim a good spot before the afternoon crowd builds. Groups larger than a single household can arrange overnight stays directly with management, though this requires advance coordination rather than showing up unannounced. Everything else is simple: bring food, bring towels, and expect a day that moves at the pace of the water rather than the pace of the city.
