Bacolod Calls for Stronger Community Action Against Dengue
BACOLOD - The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) is urging all barangays and residents to participate in community clean-up drives following the city’s report of additional dengue-related deaths. According to a September 6 report by Bombo Radyo Bacolod, two more fatalities were recorded, including a five-year-old girl from Barangay Granada and a four-year-old girl from Barangay Mansilingan. The city has now reported 448 dengue cases in 2026, highlighting the need for continued community action to prevent further transmission.
Households Encouraged to Eliminate Mosquito Breeding Sites
Dr. Grace Tan, head of the CHO Environment and Sanitation Division, encouraged barangays and residents to actively take part in clean-up activities. She emphasized the importance of identifying and eliminating mosquito breeding areas, particularly places where stagnant water collects both inside and outside homes. Tan also stressed that dengue prevention should begin at the household level rather than relying solely on health workers, as some potential breeding sites may be difficult for health personnel to see or reach.
Working Together to Keep Communities Safe
The CHO also explained that fogging and spraying interventions are being conducted primarily in areas with high numbers of dengue cases, partly because these measures may affect air quality. The health office is therefore encouraging residents to make regular cleaning and removal of potential breeding sites part of their everyday efforts. Through cooperation among households, barangays, health workers, and local authorities, Bacolod aims to strengthen dengue prevention and help keep the number of cases from increasing further.
