Mayor Greg Calls for Strict Firearm Safety
BACOLOD - Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya called on government employees and licensed firearm owners to observe strict and responsible firearm handling. He delivered the reminder during the city’s flag-raising ceremony following reports of recent school shootings in Zamboanga City and South Cotabato, where minors reportedly gained access to firearms provided by their parents, who work in government. The mayor emphasized that firearm ownership comes with an important responsibility, particularly when weapons are kept inside homes.
Keeping Firearms Away From Children
Gasataya stressed that firearms must always be properly secured and kept away from children and other unauthorized individuals. Proper storage can help prevent accidents, misuse, and unauthorized access within households. The reminder also highlights the responsibility of firearm owners to ensure that weapons remain inaccessible to minors and are handled only by authorized individuals.
