Small Energy Systems With a Local Purpose
BOHOL - The partnership signed on October 26, 2026, focuses on developing community-based micro-renewable energy installations in off-grid island communities. Initial development studies are covering three islands in Talibon and four in Getafe, creating a starting point for assessing how renewable energy systems can serve communities that face challenges in accessing conventional power infrastructure. Instead of relying on a single large solution, smaller community-based systems can offer an opportunity to bring energy generation closer to the people who need it.
More Reliable Power Can Open Opportunities
Electricity supports far more than household lighting. Reliable power can help small businesses operate, improve access to essential services, support communications, and create better conditions for community activities and local livelihoods. Strengthening energy security can also help communities become more prepared for disruptions in power supply. For island residents, bringing practical energy solutions closer to home can mean creating new possibilities for both daily life and local economic activity.
A Cleaner Path for Bohol’s Island Communities
The partnership aims to strengthen local energy initiatives through 2028 while supporting Bohol’s broader sustainability and resilience goals. Renewable energy can provide communities with an alternative source of power while reducing dependence on conventional energy systems. As studies move forward, the experience gained from the initial island projects could help inform future community-based energy initiatives elsewhere in the province. For Bohol’s off-grid communities, the goal is not simply to bring electricity closer—it is to build a more resilient and sustainable foundation for the future.
