MAKATI CITY — New World Makati Hotel has transformed its lobby into a vibrant cultural space with the launch of “LIKHA: The Living Gallery,” a rotating art exhibition in celebration of the hotel’s 32nd anniversary. The exhibition, which opened on July 15, 2026, features 14 Filipino artists across various styles and mediums, from bold abstract works to introspective depictions of daily life. Curated by Ricky Francisco of Art Forward in collaboration with Galerie Joaquin, the gallery aims to create a space where guests and the public can engage with art beyond aesthetics, encouraging deeper reflection and participation in the appreciation of culture and community.
A Platform for Emerging and Established Artists
The exhibition showcases the works of both emerging and established Filipino artists, including Jed Gregorio, Tammy de Roca, and Aaron Virata Mempin. Gregorio’s painting, “Narcissus,” part of a series exploring self-reflection, invites viewers to find beauty within themselves. De Roca’s piece, “Gaia’s 10 Waves,” uses texture and weight to encourage meditation on art, while Mempin’s “Mi Casa” offers a glimpse into what he describes as “the logic of chaos,” drawing from his corporate background. The exhibition will be on display in the hotel lobby until December 2026, with pieces rotating roughly every three months.
Art with a Purpose: Supporting Education and Welfare
Beyond showcasing Filipino creativity, the exhibition also serves a charitable purpose. A percentage of the proceeds from the gallery will be donated to Mano Amiga, the beneficiary of Art Forward, which focuses on providing education and welfare opportunities for impoverished children and families. This initiative aligns with New World Makati Hotel’s broader commitment to community partnerships and social responsibility.
