CEBU — The running community of the Queen City of the South has a new goal on the horizon. The Cebu Marathon 2027 officially kicked off its campaign with a launch at the Cube Wing Atrium of SM Seaside City Cebu, setting the stage for a premier race day on January 10, 2027. Runners are invited to lace up and be part of a world-class event.
A Race of International Standards
The Cebu Marathon is an AIMS-certified event, meaning its course is measured according to the exacting standards of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races. This certification is a badge of honor, assuring runners that their finish times can be used to qualify for major marathons around the world. It places the race among the elite running events globally.
For serious athletes, this is a crucial detail. The certification guarantees the distance is accurate, making every kilometer count towards personal records and potential international qualifications. It adds a layer of credibility that draws both elite competitors and dedicated enthusiasts. The marathon is not just a fun run; it’s a legitimate test of endurance on a global stage.
The Iconic CCLEX Course
The highlight of the race is undeniably the route across the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX). For the 42K and 21K categories, runners will cross the longest and tallest bridge in the Philippines, taking in panoramic views of the Mactan Channel. This unique feature sets the Cebu Marathon apart from any other race in the country.
The course also weaves through historic landmarks, including the SRP Tunnel and Plaza Independencia. Runners will experience the vibrant energy of the city and its scenic coastal roads. The blend of modern infrastructure and historical sites makes every mile a sightseeing journey as much as a physical challenge.
Running During the Sinulog Season
Scheduled for the second Sunday of January, the marathon coincides perfectly with the Sinulog Festival. The race atmosphere is electric, with traditional street performances and Sinulog drum beaters lining the course. This cultural infusion provides an unmatched boost of energy, pushing runners towards the finish line with the heartbeat of Cebu.
The synergy of sport and culture creates a unique experience for both local and international participants. For out-of-town runners, it’s a chance to combine a major race with one of the Philippines’ most famous festivals. The event showcases the best of Cebuano pride and hospitality.
