Davao — The Social Security System (SSS) recently stepped up its regional outreach by convening 200 employers and key administrative personnel for an intensive three-day training program in Davao City. Organized by the SSS Mindanao South 1 Division and hosted by the SSS Toril Branch at the Royal Mandaya Hotel, the SSS Training for Employer-Members (SSSTEM) program aimed to bridge knowledge gaps regarding statutory obligations. By bringing together human resource officers, accountants, and business owners, the initiative underscores the agency's commitment to fostering a collaborative environment that safeguards worker welfare across the region.
Delivering Comprehensive Modules Across Three Intensive Days
Facilitated by the SSS Member Education Department, the multi-day seminar was structured into nine comprehensive modules designed to give participants a thorough understanding of social security frameworks. Division communications officer Mona Lorraine Tombo noted that the sessions covered critical topics, ranging from the core SSS mandate and various loan programs to mandatory employer registration and accurate remittance procedures. Officials emphasized that a firm grasp of these operational guidelines helps businesses avoid legal penalties while streamlining internal HR and accounting workflows.
Sustaining Regional Compliance and Protecting Worker Benefits
Ensuring strict adherence to Republic Act No. 11199, or the Social Security Act of 2018, is vital to guaranteeing that covered employees seamlessly receive their entitled social protections. Proper employer compliance directly secures workers' access to essential statutory safety nets, including sickness, maternity, disability, retirement, funeral, and death benefits. Guided by Division Vice President Mary Ellen A. Estoque, the regional office has consistently sustained this educational drive for three consecutive years, reinforcing accountability across local business communities.
Rotating Community Outreach to Foster Greater Regional Engagement
By systematically rotating the host branch each year—moving from the Davao San Pedro Branch in 2024 and the Tagum Branch in 2025 to the Toril Branch this year—the division successfully brings essential governance education directly to diverse business sectors. This grassroots approach ensures that employers in both urban centers and surrounding provinces receive personalized guidance and responsive support from local branch teams. As regulatory standards evolve, such proactive multi-agency engagements remain instrumental in building a transparent, resilient, and legally compliant business ecosystem across Mindanao.
