DAVAO CITY — The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is urging Mindanao's artists and cultural workers to seize a significant opportunity. The agency is now accepting proposals for its 2027 Competitive Grants Program, which offers funding across 98 project categories.
A P121.4-Million Fund for Culture
The program has a total allocation of ₱121.4 million to support initiatives in arts, culture, and heritage. This funding covers a wide range of fields, including cinema, dance, literary arts, and historical research. It is designed to empower local communities to preserve and promote their unique cultural identities.
During a roadshow at Rogen Inn, NCCA representatives encouraged regional participation. Architect Gloryrose Dy of the National Committee on Architecture and Allied Arts explained that the categories represent specific projects. She detailed the variety available, from cinema's 16 slots to dance's 9 slots, each designed to support different artistic disciplines.
More Than Just Cinema and Dance
The grants extend beyond performance arts. Cultural education projects can apply for funding for research, learning material development, and teaching festivals. The Communication committee is also seeking proposals for podcasts, radio programs, and capacity-building initiatives. This ensures a holistic approach to cultural development.
For Mindanao's diverse cultural communities, there are dedicated funds. Inna Garcia of the National Committee on Southern Cultural Communities announced that 9 categories will be opened. A total of ₱5.5 million is allocated across 30 available slots, specifically targeting the region's rich traditions and heritage.
A Boost for Regional Filmmakers
Lawyer Karen Santiago Malaki of the National Committee on Cinema expressed hope that Mindanao filmmakers will take advantage of the program. The cinema category supports regional film festivals, short film productions, and film education. This presents a valuable chance for local stories to reach a wider audience and for the region's film industry to grow.
The grants are not limited to large organizations. Individual artists, cultural workers, NGOs, and Indigenous Peoples' Organizations are all eligible to apply. This inclusive approach ensures that funding reaches the grassroots, where it is often needed most. The goal is to fuel creativity from the ground up.
