BOHOL — The Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark is being highlighted as an important way to help young people stay connected to their home, culture and environment.
During the welcome meeting of the First Revalidation Mission of the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark on August 3, 2026, community officer and researcher Jairus Ismael Chiu shared a message about the role of the Geopark in shaping the younger generation.
Building Youth Awareness
Chiu emphasized that young people today are increasingly influenced by digital content and online experiences. The Geopark, however, provides an opportunity for them to better understand the land, communities and heritage that shaped their identity. For the youth, learning about Bohol’s natural and cultural resources can encourage a stronger sense of responsibility toward protecting the province.
