Design, heritage, culture, and community will come together as Negros Design Week 2026 returns for its third year, bringing a celebration of creativity to both Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental. This year’s theme, “50/50: A Hundred Years of Design,” looks both backward and forward, inviting participants to reflect on the past 50 years of design while imagining what the next 50 years could bring. The celebration centers on heritage, both tangible and intangible, and asks an important question: What kind of world do we want to create?
A Celebration Across Negros
Negros Design Week 2026 will take place in both Silay City and Dumaguete City, highlighting creative communities from different parts of Negros. The Silay City leg is scheduled for October 10–11, 2026, at the DTI Negosyo Center in the Puericulture building. The Dumaguete City leg will bring the celebration to the Bamboo Pavilion. The Design Center of the Philippines also lists Negros Design Week as a partner event of Design Week Philippines in Dumaguete, reflecting the growing presence of regional design communities within the country's wider creative landscape.
Looking 50 Years Back and 50 Years Ahead
At the heart of this year's celebration is the idea of looking at design through time.
The 50/50 concept connects the past and the future, encouraging conversations about how traditions, materials, ideas, and creative practices have evolved and how they can continue to shape the communities of tomorrow. Rather than treating design simply as aesthetics, the event highlights design as something connected to everyday life, culture, identity, and the way communities imagine their future.
Discover Heritage Through Design
Heritage is a major focus of Negros Design Week 2026, with the program looking at both tangible and intangible heritage. This can include the buildings, objects, crafts, materials, and visual traditions that communities inherit, as well as knowledge, practices, stories, games, food, and other cultural expressions passed from one generation to another.
The connection between local heritage and contemporary design is already visible in Dumaguete's creative community. Foundation University's architecture program, for example, has worked on projects incorporating indigenous narratives and locally sourced materials such as sinamay, raffia, rattan, and wood from Bohol and Negros.
