GENERAL SANTOS CITY - The CSWDO has received a second Mobile Kitchen during a turnover ceremony led by General Santos City Mayor Lorelie Geronimo Pacquiao, adding another piece of equipment to the city’s social welfare operations. CSWDO Department Head Genelene Vidanes, RSW, personally accepted the unit on behalf of the office. Designed to move between barangays, the Mobile Kitchen can be used for food preparation and assistance in situations where residents need immediate support. The addition is particularly useful for an office whose work often extends beyond fixed facilities and into communities requiring direct social welfare intervention.
Turning Mobility Into Practical Assistance
The new unit can give CSWDO more flexibility when organizing food-related assistance during emergencies, community activities, and other situations requiring on-site support. Its value lies not simply in having another kitchen, but in giving personnel equipment that can travel to where services are needed. This approach is consistent with the broader role of mobile kitchens in disaster response, as DSWD documented the use of mobile kitchens to prepare hot meals for affected residents in General Santos City following the June 2026 earthquake. The experience illustrates how mobile food facilities can become useful tools when regular routines are disrupted.

For residents, the second Mobile Kitchen represents an additional resource that CSWDO can deploy as needs arise across General Santos City. It can complement other city services during community-based programs, emergency operations, and welfare activities where preparing and distributing food forms part of the response. The development also builds on the city’s existing practice of using a CSWDO Mobile Kitchen during barangay service activities, including the Serbisyong Heneral outreach in Tinagacan. Rather than keeping assistance centered in one location, the equipment allows social welfare personnel to bring a practical part of their response directly to participating communities.
