Seven GenSan Communicators Step Into the Training Room
GENERAL SANTOS - Seven information personnel from the Schools Division of General Santos City joined 60 participants representing the eight Schools Divisions of SOCCSKSARGEN during a two-day capacity-building activity held September 2–3 at The Farm @ Carpenter Hill in South Cotabato. The training focused on a part of education work that families may rarely see: preparing information before it reaches a school community or the wider public. Participants worked on strengthening how DepEd programs, accomplishments, announcements, and other developments are prepared, checked, and presented. For the GenSan delegation, the activity provides additional professional tools for handling education information in a field where accuracy and clarity matter to thousands of people.
Turning Education Updates Into Information People Can Use
Education announcements can affect practical decisions for parents, learners, teachers, and school personnel, whether the subject involves programs, activities, schedules, or changes within the education system. That makes the work of information personnel more than simply writing or posting announcements. The September training placed attention on preparing and verifying information before communicating it to different audiences. General Santos City’s participation builds on the division’s existing public-information work. In May, PIA interviewed DepEd GenSan information officer Kenneth Carisma about changes and misinformation surrounding the senior high school program, illustrating how education communicators can help families distinguish verified information from circulating claims.
A Stronger Information Pipeline for Schools and Communities
The training also fits into a wider need for reliable education communication across SOCCSKSARGEN. DepEd’s work in General Santos City has involved communicating developments that directly affect communities, including the safe return of face-to-face classes after the June earthquake. The division’s August 2026 reopening announcement included information on safety clearances, psychosocial support, school orientations, and restrictions on damaged structures. With seven GenSan information personnel joining the regional activity, the benefit is not limited to improving individual writing skills. Better preparation, verification, and delivery of information can make important education announcements easier for families and school stakeholders to understand when they need reliable details.
