ILOILO CITY — The Department of Tourism in Western Visayas has officially launched its enhanced "Experience Western Visayas" tourism brand. The initiative aims to promote the region as a single, highly connected destination, encouraging travelers to explore beyond just one province or city.
DOT 6 Regional Director Crisanta Marlene Rodriguez emphasized this strategic shift during the recent unveiling. She noted the transition from separately promoted destinations to presenting one unified region of connected experiences, ultimately aiming to drive wider visitor movement and distribution across the entire area.
By bundling the diverse attractions of the region, the department hopes to create a seamless travel experience. This connected approach allows tourists to easily plan multi-province itineraries, discovering the unique charm of each locality while contributing to a broader, more inclusive regional economy.
Woven Heritage in a Logo
The new visual identity draws deep inspiration from Pinili, a traditional hand-loomed supplementary weaving technique native to Western Visayan textiles. The logo features six interconnected elements, elegantly representing the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo, and Iloilo City.
This intricate design symbolizes their shared cultural identity and geographic connectivity. Rodriguez clarified that the regional brand is not designed to replace the unique identities of local government units. Instead, it provides a common, unifying framework that makes each destination more visible and easier to connect for tourists.
The intricate weaving motif also pays homage to the region's rich artistic heritage. It serves as a powerful visual reminder of how the different provinces are woven together by history, traditions, and a shared commitment to sustainable tourism development that benefits everyone.
Driving Economic Growth
The strategic initiative comes as Western Visayas recorded a massive 4,567,334 tourist arrivals in 2025, with Aklan and Iloilo City serving as the primary gateways. The department now aims to encourage these visitors to explore secondary destinations, effectively expanding livelihood opportunities for local communities and grassroots enterprises.
The Regional Development Council 6 officially approved the tourism brand during its third-quarter full council meeting on September 29, 2026. The development involved extensive consultations with local government units, private sector stakeholders, and national agencies, ensuring that the brand truly reflects the region's vibrant culture, heritage, and cuisine.
Expanding the economic footprint is a core objective of this rebranding effort. By directing tourist traffic to lesser-known spots, the DOT aims to decentralize wealth and ensure that the benefits of the thriving tourism industry are felt across all local communities, not just the major entry points.
Measuring Beyond Numbers
Through this enhanced brand, DOT 6 hopes to inspire travelers to immerse themselves deeply in the region, leading to longer stays and greater economic benefits for host communities. The focus remains on creating meaningful travel experiences that highlight the warmth of the people and the unique stories of Western Visayas.
As the region moves forward, the emphasis will remain on crafting authentic journeys that resonate with visitors. The department believes that true tourism success is measured not just by arrival statistics, but by the lasting positive impact created within the local neighborhoods and the smiles of the hosts.
