TACLOBAN CITY — Upholding a nationwide tradition of honoring the elderly, various government agencies and private sector partners converged at Robinsons North Tacloban on October 1, 2026, to host a special Grand Caravan for the senior citizens of the city. Held to coincide with the official opening of Elderly Filipino Week, the community-focused event delivered an array of essential health and social welfare services directly to local senior citizens.
Essential Health Services and Livelihood Support
The celebratory caravan offered a multitude of free services tailored to the health and well-being of the elderly participants, including general medical checkups, vitamin distributions, and vital pneumococcal vaccinations. Beyond healthcare, attendees benefited from specialized livelihood consultations and legal assistance programs designed to address their unique daily needs. Organizers ensured that the elders received comprehensive care in a welcoming, festive environment that acknowledged their lifelong contributions to society.
Commemorating National Proclamation No. 470 Across the Country
The observance follows the mandate of Proclamation No. 470, signed by former President Fidel V. Ramos, which designates the first week of October annually as Elderly Filipino Week. Local leaders highlighted that initiatives like the Grand Caravan reinforce the community's deep-rooted respect for older persons, ensuring they remain valued, healthy, and supported pillars of society.
