MAKATI CITY — The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) and Makati Medical Center (MakatiMed) have renewed and expanded their partnership through a five-year agreement aimed at strengthening military healthcare and advancing the digitalization of the AFP medical system. The memorandum of agreement was signed on July 8, 2026, at Camp Aguinaldo by AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr., Makati Medical Center Foundation Chairman Manuel V. Pangilinan, and Makati Medical Center Foundation President Dr. Victor Gisbert. Building on previous collaborations established in 2018 and 2021, the new agreement extends beyond the AFP Medical Center to support healthcare improvements across the military medical network. Both institutions emphasized that maintaining the health and readiness of military personnel is vital to the AFP's mission of protecting the country.
Strengthening Military Healthcare Through Training and Technical Support
A major part of the agreement focuses on improving the capabilities of military medical professionals through specialized training and professional development. AFP-endorsed doctors and healthcare personnel will have opportunities to participate in residency and fellowship programs at Makati Medical Center, as well as clinical rotations, benchmarking activities, and continuing education programs. The partnership will also provide hospital management expertise and technical assistance to improve healthcare services throughout AFP facilities. Medical equipment and infrastructure will likewise receive attention under the agreement. Biomedical technicians and other technical specialists from the foundation will assist in inspecting, calibrating, repairing, and refurbishing equipment used in AFP hospitals and treatment centers. The partnership will also promote personnel exchanges and civic initiatives, including opportunities for Makati Medical Center doctors and hospital personnel to serve as military reservists through the AFP Hospital Reserve Unit.
Advancing Digital Healthcare and Expanding Medical Access
Digital transformation is another key focus of the renewed partnership. The foundation will deploy systems analysts and project management specialists to help establish the AFP's unified digital healthcare platform, including electronic medical records, secure health information-sharing systems, and e-learning programs designed to support digital adoption among military healthcare facilities. The agreement will also expand access to specialized medical services for active AFP personnel and their immediate dependents through the foundation's medical assistance programs. Meanwhile, the AFP will provide logistical and administrative support for activities conducted in military camps and hospitals, including blood donation campaigns and mental wellness initiatives. Through the expanded five-year partnership, the AFP and Makati Medical Center reaffirm their shared goal of improving healthcare delivery, strengthening medical capabilities, and ensuring quality services for military personnel and their eligible dependents.
