A New Management Framework for Cultural Facilities
Bacolod City is taking steps to strengthen its cultural and heritage programs through a proposed ordinance that will create the Bacolod Museum and Auditorium Management Board. The measure, authored by Councilor Em Ang and recently approved on first reading, recognizes the importance of arts, culture, and history in the development of the city. The Bacolod Museum and Auditorium in Barangay Pahanocoy is envisioned as a center for exhibitions, educational activities, performances, and historical preservation, providing residents and visitors with a dedicated venue for cultural engagement.
Ensuring Accessibility and Efficient Operations
Under the proposed ordinance, the management board will oversee policies and operations to ensure the museum and auditorium remain well-maintained and accessible to the public. The facility will accommodate conventions, lectures, government programs, and cultural events through a reservation system. Plans also include designated spaces for a museum café and souvenir shop, creating additional attractions for visitors while supporting the overall sustainability of the facility. Officials believe a clear operational framework will help maximize the venue’s benefits for the community.
MassKara Coliseum Positioned for Economic Growth
The City Council also approved on first reading a separate ordinance establishing the management structure for the nearly completed MassKara Coliseum. Designed to host sports competitions, concerts, conventions, and large-scale gatherings, the facility is expected to become a major hub for tourism and economic activity in Bacolod. The proposed management board will oversee operations, commercial leasing, and revenue generation, while ensuring that a significant portion of earnings is reinvested into maintenance and future improvements. City leaders view the coliseum as a key project that will contribute to Bacolod’s growth as a regional center for events and entertainment.
