Bantayan District Hospital successfully performed its first emergency appendectomy on July 24, 2026, marking a historic expansion of surgical services for the island’s more than 150,000 residents.

Governor Baricuatro has mandated reforms across all 16 Capitol‑run hospitals, targeting the gaps that leave rural and island communities underserved. Bantayan District Hospital’s expansion is a direct result of that directive. The delivery of new surgical instruments and modern anesthesia equipment made the operating room fully functional and ready for emergency cases.
