TACLOBAN CITY — In celebration of the Bureau of Fire Protection’s 35th anniversary, BFP Eastern Visayas (BFP-8) led an awarding ceremony to honor top-performing stations, divisions, partner agencies, and media organizations whose collaboration strengthens public safety and emergency response throughout the region.
Led by BFP-8 Regional Director Fire Chief Superintendent Aldwin M. Salazar, the event took place on August 20 at the Leyte Academic Center in Palo, Leyte. The gathering highlighted the critical role of multi-sectoral partnerships in addressing fire incidents and disaster response.
Honoring Exemplary Operational Performance
Representing BFP Officer-in-Charge Fire Chief Superintendent Wilberto Rico Neil A. Kwan Tiu, Chief of Directorial Staff Fire Chief Superintendent Andrew A. Mendova conveyed leadership recognition for the region’s achievements, praising awardees for their dedicated support and operational excellence.
The Tacloban City Fire Station was named Best City Fire Station and received the Best Emergency Medical Services award for 2026. The Office of the Provincial Fire Marshal of Samar earned Best Provincial Office of the Year, while Basey Fire Station was selected as Best Municipal Fire Station of the Year. The Fire Safety, Enforcement and Prevention Division was honored as Best Division/Office of the Year.
Strengthening Strategic Media and Community Partnerships
Beyond internal units, BFP-8 recognized key communication partners for their role in promoting fire prevention campaigns and public safety awareness. The Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Eastern Visayas, the Association of Government Information Officers (AGIO), and various media organizations received awards for their ongoing support in broadcasting the bureau's initiatives.
The ceremony brought together command group officers and retired leadership, reinforcing the historical legacy and ongoing mission of fire service in Eastern Visayas.
