BOHOL — The Bohol District Jail (BDJ)–Female Dormitory is helping persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) develop practical skills through a training program designed to support rehabilitation and future livelihood opportunities.
TESDA Training Builds Practical Baking Skills
The BDJ–Female Dormitory recently conducted a TESDA Skills Training on Bread and Pastry Production NC II in partnership with TESDA Bohol through the TESDA Provincial Training Center–Bilar.
Evangeline Samputon served as the trainer and facilitator for the program, guiding the participants through hands-on activities focused on bread and pastry production. The training included lessons and practical exercises in dough preparation, baking, and pastry making, allowing participants to develop skills that can be useful even after their period of confinement.
Skills Training Supports Rehabilitation
The program aims to give PDLs more opportunities to prepare for life after release by providing them with practical and employment-related competencies. The skills gained from bread and pastry production can potentially help participants pursue employment, start small businesses, or explore other productive livelihood opportunities in the future.
Skills development programs such as this also form part of broader rehabilitation efforts that encourage PDLs to build confidence, learn new abilities, and prepare for reintegration into their communities.
Bohol Government Supports Inclusive Opportunities
The Provincial Government of Bohol, under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, continues to support initiatives that promote skills development and rehabilitation at the BDJ. Guided by its Strategic Governance Roadmap, the provincial government said the efforts reflect its commitment to creating smart, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable communities. The TESDA training also highlights the importance of partnerships between government agencies in providing PDLs with opportunities that can contribute to their personal development and future livelihood.
Preparing PDLs for Life Beyond Confinement
Through continued skills training, the BDJ–Female Dormitory is helping participants gain knowledge that can be applied outside the correctional facility. The initiative demonstrates how vocational education can play an important role in rehabilitation by giving PDLs practical tools they can use to pursue productive opportunities and build a better future after confinement. The program also contributes to Bohol's broader efforts to promote inclusive development as the province continues to uphold its identity as the country's first and only UNESCO Global Geopark.
