Creating Safer Spaces for Students
BOHOL - One of the key measures approved on second reading was the proposed Bohol Students’ and Learners’ Mental Health, Suicide, and Violence Prevention, Resilience, and Safe Schools Ordinance of 2026. The proposed measure places attention on creating safer and more supportive learning environments for students. By bringing mental health, violence prevention, resilience, and school safety into one policy discussion, Bohol is recognizing that education is not only about academic achievement—it is also about giving young people an environment where they can learn, grow, and seek support when facing difficulties.
Opening More Opportunities for Older Boholanos
The provincial legislature also approved on first reading a proposed ordinance focused on providing employment opportunities for senior citizens. The measure highlights the value of keeping older residents connected to productive and meaningful opportunities while recognizing the experience and skills they can contribute to communities. At the same time, a resolution authorizing an agreement with the Department of Health for the implementation of Health System Resiliency Project Performance-Based Grants was approved, strengthening the province’s efforts to improve healthcare resilience. Together, these measures point toward a more inclusive approach where both younger and older Boholanos have opportunities for protection, participation, and support.
Building Communities That Can Move Forward
The session also addressed infrastructure concerns, including damaged roads and bridges that were referred to the appropriate committee for further discussion and possible interventions. The legislative body likewise received reports involving education, culture and arts, public utilities, and other community concerns. From protecting students’ mental well-being to supporting senior citizens, strengthening healthcare, and addressing infrastructure needs, these actions reflect a broader effort to make public services responsive to everyday realities. Step by step, Bohol continues working toward communities that are healthier, safer, more inclusive, and better prepared for the future across the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark.
