CEBU CITY — Cebu Province will welcome governors and top tourism officials from a dozen East Asian provinces for the 19th General Assembly of the East Asia Inter-Regional Tourism Federation (EATOF). The biennial summit, set for September 1 to 5, 2026, is expected to strengthen regional tourism partnerships, spark cultural exchanges, and generate fresh investment leads for the province.
A Summit of Provincial Leaders
More than 120 delegates are anticipated, with each of the 12 member provinces sending at least 10 representatives, including their respective governors. The gathering will give Cebu’s leadership a rare platform to sit face‑to‑face with counterparts from South Korea, Japan, China, Malaysia, Thailand, and seven other East Asian territories. The direct engagement among provincial chief executives makes EATOF a uniquely influential body.
Provincial Tourism Officer Rowena Montecillo said the assembly will allow Governor Pamela Baricuatro to share her vision for Cebu’s tourism future directly with the other governors. The event will also elevate policy proposals that were drafted during last year’s standing committee meeting into formal agreements. For Cebu, hosting the assembly reaffirms its standing as a premier destination for high‑level international conferences.
Showcasing Cebu on a Global Stage
Beyond the boardroom sessions, organizers have prepared a series of organized tours to give delegates a firsthand experience of Cebu’s attractions. A special technical tour has been designed specifically for the visiting governors to showcase the province’s tourism infrastructure and investment‑ready areas. These curated experiences turn the province itself into a living exhibit of its tourism potential.
The assembly is expected to approve policies that will guide regional cooperation in sustainable tourism development, cultural promotion, and people‑to‑people exchanges. With Cebu holding the floor, the province can shape the agenda to reflect its own priorities, from eco‑tourism expansion to digital tourism solutions. The policies up for approval were crafted during the 23rd EATOF Standing Committee Meeting, which Cebu also hosted in July 2025. Montecillo noted that the substantive work of the assembly will anchor the high‑level talks, but the real value also lies in the informal exchanges. Hosting again in 2026 reinforces the province’s long‑standing commitment to regional diplomacy.
