DAVAO — The City Veterinarian's Office has released its September schedule for free anti-rabies vaccination, bringing critical disease prevention services directly to communities across the city. The program also includes livestock support, artificial insemination, and information campaigns aimed at safeguarding both public health and local livelihoods.
A Month-Long Push Against Rabies
CVO personnel will conduct free anti-rabies vaccination in Barangay Bucana on September 18, followed by Vita Pets in Ma-a on September 19. Additional schedules cover Barangay Bucana on September 21, Barangays 40-D and Bantol on the same day, and Barangays Saloy and Bantol on September 22.
The vaccination drive continues in Barangays 7-A, Magsaysay, and Tapak on September 23, and Barangay Dalagdag on September 24. Barangay Waan and Vita Pets in Matina are scheduled for September 25, with another Matina session on September 26. The month concludes with Barangay Lamanan from September 28 to 30.
Veterinary Services for Livestock Owners
The office will also offer Veterinary Integrated Barangay Extension Services and Mini VIBES in Sitio Paraiso, Barangay Tapak on September 19 and 24. Additional sessions are set for Libas or Waan on September 24 and Sto. Niño, Waan on September 29.
During these activities, the CVO provides pregnancy diagnosis for female large animals, artificial insemination for cattle and carabao, and deworming for livestock and poultry. Consultation and treatment for animals, Hemosep vaccination, and vitamin supplementation are also available.
The CVO will additionally conduct synchronization or hormone injection to induce estrus in large cattle. Anti-rabies vaccination is likewise offered during these outreach activities, ensuring comprehensive animal health support in a single visit.
Strong Vaccination Numbers Recorded
Maria Noreen Eng, Section Chief of the CVO's Davao City Animal Disease Diagnostic Laboratory, shared during the ISpeak Media Conference on Thursday that as of August 2026, the office has vaccinated 118,534 cats and dogs. A total of 1,954 animals were also neutered during the same period.
These figures reflect the sustained effort to control rabies and manage animal populations across the city. Eng added that the CVO continues to participate in caravan activities, offering free services and distributing information and education campaign materials to the public.
Rabies Prevention as a Public Health Priority
Rabies remains a serious public health threat, but it is entirely preventable through vaccination. Regular immunization of cats and dogs creates a protective barrier that safeguards both animals and humans. The CVO's proactive approach helps reduce the risk of transmission in communities.
The simultaneous provision of livestock services supports agricultural livelihoods that depend on healthy animals. Farmers and livestock raisers benefit from artificial insemination, deworming, and veterinary consultations without traveling to distant offices.
