Bacolod and Paete Explore Stronger Cooperation
BACOLOD - The relationship between Bacolod City and Paete, Laguna is gaining momentum following a courtesy call by Paete Mayor Ronald Cosico and his delegation to Bacolod City Mayor Greg Gasataya at the Bacolod City Government Center on September 4, 2026. The meeting provided an opportunity for both local governments to exchange ideas and explore areas where their communities could work together. Discussions focused on practical local governance concerns and initiatives that could contribute to more resilient and sustainable communities.
Sharing Ideas on Governance, Environment, and Heritage
Among the topics discussed were flood mitigation, renewable energy through solar power, local governance, and Bacolod’s history and heritage, including the well-known Manokan Country. The exchange allowed officials from both cities to share experiences and consider how successful programs and practices could be adapted to their respective communities. Such discussions can help local governments discover new approaches to addressing common challenges while strengthening relationships between their leaders and institutions.
Toward a Potential Sister City Partnership
Paete officials also expressed their intention to pursue a formal Sister City Agreement with Bacolod, which could provide a stronger framework for continued cooperation and the exchange of programs and best practices. Mayor Gasataya was joined by Councilors Celia Flor and Thaddeus Sayson, while Mayor Cosico was accompanied by Vice Mayor Lorena Velasco and members of the Sangguniang Bayan. A formal partnership could create more opportunities for both local governments to collaborate in governance, sustainability, cultural exchange, and community development while building a lasting connection between Bacolod and Paete.
