Three Pueblos, One Heritage Journey
BACOLOD - From Magsungay on August 16, to Sum-ag on August 22, and finally to Granada on August 29, the Pueblo Heritage Tour Series brought students of Bacolod City National High School on a journey through the early settlements that form an important part of Bacolod’s history. Across three heritage tours, students stepped beyond the classroom and learned through places, communities, stories, and shared experiences. The journey gave them a closer look at the roots of Bacolod and a deeper understanding of how its early settlements contributed to the development of the highly urbanized city it is today.
Connecting Young People With Bacolod’s Past
The series was conducted by the Bacolod City Tourism Development Office in partnership with Project H.A.P.I.T.: Youth Tourism Collective as part of the city’s History Month Celebration, under the theme “Roots and Horizons: Our Shared Heritage, Our Collective Future.” As the three-part heritage journey came to a close, it celebrated not only the communities and stories that were explored but also the young people who listened, learned, and experienced Bacolod’s heritage firsthand. The tours demonstrated how history can become more meaningful when students encounter it directly through the places and communities that helped shape their city.
From Roots Toward Bacolod’s Future
More than a journey into the past, the Heritage Tour Series served as a reminder that history remains relevant when it is understood, appreciated, and shared with the next generation. Heritage is more than remembering where Bacolod came from; it is also about ensuring that the stories, traditions, and places that shaped the city continue to have meaning for those who will shape its future. Through initiatives that connect young people with local history, Bacolod continues to encourage a stronger appreciation of its cultural identity—carrying its roots forward toward new horizons.
