Cebu — The Cebu Pacific continues to dominate the Philippine skies, reporting a robust passenger volume of 14.5 million during the first half of 2026. Despite global fuel price fluctuations and economic challenges, the Gokongwei-led airline achieved a 4.3% year-on-year growth compared to the 13.9 million passengers recorded in the same period last year. This steady climb underscores the resilient demand for air travel within the Philippines, solidifying the carrier's position as the country's leading airline.
Domestic Network Fuels Growth
The backbone of Cebu Pacific’s impressive first-half performance is its extensive domestic network, which saw a 4.9% increase in passenger volume, reaching 10.9 million travelers. To accommodate this surge in interest, the carrier expanded its seat capacity by 9.7% to 17.9 million seats, maintaining an average seat load factor (SLF) of 81.2%. This strategic capacity management ensured that the airline could effectively capture the sustained enthusiasm for local travel, even during the traditional lean months of the travel calendar.
A Rebound in June
After navigating a challenging start to the second quarter, Cebu Pacific experienced a notable rebound in June 2026. This performance was largely bolstered by a 6.2% jump in domestic passengers, which effectively offset a temporary decline in international traffic. Xander Lao, President and Chief Commercial Officer of Cebu Pacific, attributed the success to the unwavering strength of the domestic market. "June marked a return to year-on-year passenger growth, driven by the continued strength of our domestic network even as we entered the traditional lean travel season," Lao noted.
Optimism for the Second Half
Looking ahead, Cebu Pacific remains highly optimistic about its operating performance for the remainder of 2026. With global fuel prices easing significantly and consumer sentiment showing signs of improvement, the airline is well-positioned to maintain its growth trajectory. As the carrier continues to optimize its operations and fleet utilization, it remains committed to its core strategy of providing affordable and reliable air travel to every Filipino.
