Strengthening Community Development Skills
BOHOL - The Provincial Government of Bohol (PGBh), under the leadership of Gov. Aris Aumentado, through the Provincial Cooperative Development Office (PCDO), conducted a three-day Advanced Training on Community Organizing–Community Development (CO-CD) for Community Empowerment and Development Officers (CEDOs) and technical staff from August 18 to 20, 2026. PCDO Department Head Ma. Conrada Fuentes opened the training and emphasized the importance of strengthening the participants’ knowledge, skills, and capabilities to prepare them for more effective roles in future community development initiatives. The activity provided an opportunity for participants to revisit fundamental CO-CD concepts while gaining a deeper understanding of the principles, values, and ethical practices that guide effective community organizing and development.
Turning Training Into Practical Community Action
The training also focused on practical applications of community organizing and development concepts. Through hands-on sessions, participants were given opportunities to apply the community organizing process to real-life situations, identify the needs of communities, and determine appropriate approaches for addressing local concerns. These activities helped strengthen the capacity of CEDOs and technical staff to better understand community conditions and develop interventions that encourage participation and cooperation among residents. By improving the skills of personnel working directly with communities, the PCDO aims to support more responsive and sustainable development efforts across Bohol.
Building a More Resilient and Inclusive Bohol
The capacity-building initiative supports the PGBh's broader efforts to develop a smart, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable province. Strengthening the capabilities of community development personnel can help ensure that local programs are implemented with greater participation, coordination, and sensitivity to the needs of different communities. The initiative is aligned with the PGBh Strategic Change Agenda and contributes to its continuing development goals as the Philippines’ first and only UNESCO Global Geopark Regenerative Island. Through investments in people and community-based approaches, Bohol continues to strengthen the foundation for sustainable development and more meaningful local governance.
