CEBU — Governor Pamela Baricuatro has personally turned over a P50-million check to Borbon Mayor Nico Dotillos on August 25, 2026, to rehabilitate the town's aging water system. The funding promises to end over a decade of poor water distribution that has plagued residents.
A Decade of Water Woes
Mayor Dotillos expressed relief and gratitude during the meeting at the Capitol. He said the municipality had struggled with unsatisfactory water distribution by a private provider for more than a decade. Residents repeatedly called for action as many homes faced unreliable access to water.
The LGU has since regained the right to distribute water after terminating its agreement with the local provider. This decisive move allowed the town to take control of its own water infrastructure. It opened the door for a much-needed overhaul of the system.
Revitalizing a Strained System
The mayor explained that the town is not short on water sources. The real problem lies in the aging pipes, which are old and undersized for the growing number of households. The P50-million assistance will fund the expansion and upgrade of the distribution network.
The project will focus on coastal barangays, laying bigger pipes to reach more households. The LGU will also tap the municipality's abundant river systems and deep wells as primary water sources. This comprehensive approach aims to solve the problem at its roots.
