ILOILO — Megaworld Corporation has completed the transition of its company-owned offices, hotels, and retail properties at Iloilo Business Park to 100% renewable energy. The milestone covers 10 office towers and Richmonde Hotel Iloilo, advancing the developer's nationwide sustainability push.
A Major Green Milestone
The latest phase of the transition was made possible through a strategic partnership with First Gen Corporation, one of the country's leading renewable energy producers. The newly transitioned properties include One Global Center Towers A and B, Two Global Center Towers A and B, and One Techno Place Towers A and B.
Richmonde Tower, Two Techno Place, and Three Techno Place Towers A and B also joined the shift. These structures now operate alongside other Megaworld-owned developments that previously transitioned, including One and Two Fintech Place, Festive Walk Mall, Festive Walk Parade, and Courtyard by Marriott Iloilo.
Ryan Salvador, Megaworld's senior assistant vice president and MREIT technical head, emphasized that the achievement reflects broader commitments of parent company Alliance Global Group. He said sustainability is not simply an initiative pursued on the side but a mark of how the company operates and creates value.
Part of the MEGreen Program
The shift at Iloilo Business Park is a core component of MEGreen, Megaworld's company-wide sustainability program launched in 2023. The initiative aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals and aims to integrate environmentally responsible practices across all developments.
First Gen currently supplies a total of 25 megawatts of renewable energy to the Alliance Global Group. This partnership allows Megaworld to take concrete steps toward reducing the environmental impact of its properties while supporting business growth.
Carlo Vega, First Gen vice president and chief customer engagement officer, commended Megaworld and AGI for moving beyond corporate promises. He said many industry announcements express a desire to be sustainable, but partnerships like this manifest whether a company is truly committed.
A Township Built for the Future
Iloilo Business Park is a 72-hectare integrated, mixed-use township developed on the former Mandurriao Airport site. Representing an investment exceeding ₱35 billion, it serves as Western Visayas' flagship business, financial, and lifestyle district.
The township features residential condominiums with Parisian and Italian architecture, premier hotels, and a PEZA-accredited IT-BPO Cyberpark. Festive Walk Mall and the 1.1-kilometer Festive Walk Parade offer retail and dining experiences. The Iloilo Convention Center and Iloilo Museum of Contemporary Art anchor its cultural and MICE offerings.
Anchored by the 1.8-kilometer Megaworld Boulevard, the township includes dedicated bike lanes and tree-lined pedestrian paths. It connects directly to major city thoroughfares, including the eco-friendly Iloilo Sunset Boulevard. These features position the district as a model for sustainable urban development.
Commitment Beyond Compliance
Jose Arnulfo Batac, Megaworld's head of sustainability, said making sustainability an integral part of township management is the company's ultimate goal. He expressed gratitude to First Gen for partnering in the transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
The successful transition in Western Visayas is just the beginning of a larger blueprint. Megaworld aims to expand renewable energy use across more developments by 2030, reinforcing its commitment to carbon neutrality and responsible growth.
For Iloilo City, the shift enhances the township's appeal to environmentally conscious investors and tenants. It also supports the city's broader goals of becoming a green, livable urban center. The milestone demonstrates that large-scale commercial districts can operate sustainably without sacrificing economic vitality.
