ILOILO CITY — The Province of Iloilo has achieved a major milestone with all 43 Primary Care Facilities and Rural Health Units officially designated as PhilHealth YAKAP clinics. However, the severely limited number of accredited pharmacies still poses a significant hurdle in ensuring patients can conveniently claim their much-needed prescriptions.

To address this critical gap, the local government is aggressively pushing for the expansion of the PhilHealth GAMOT program. The initiative aims to guarantee that every Ilonggo patient has seamless, uninterrupted access to essential medicines, bridging the space between medical consultation and actual treatment.

This dual approach ensures that primary care services are readily available while addressing the logistical challenges of acquiring prescriptions. Local health authorities recognize that a prescription is only as effective as the patient's ability to actually obtain the required medication.

PharmaLink Campaign Expands Accreditation

During the recent PharmaLink Iloilo GAMOT Accreditation Campaign in Barotac Nuevo, provincial officials strongly encouraged private pharmacies to apply for accreditation. Currently, there are only 27 GAMOT-accredited pharmacies across the entire province, highlighting the urgent need to recruit more partner establishments.

Special emphasis was placed on engaging pharmacies in the Third and Fourth Districts, where access to accredited medicine outlets remains limited. By expanding the network of partner pharmacies, the government aims to strengthen the continuity of care and ensure that patients can easily reach their medication.

Streamlining the accreditation process is also a top priority for the provincial government. By reducing bureaucratic hurdles and providing clear guidelines, officials hope to encourage even the smallest community drugstores to partner with the program and serve their local neighborhoods.

Uniting Stakeholders for Better Health

The campaign brought together key healthcare leaders, including representatives from the Philippine Pharmacists Association, PhilHealth, KOMUNIDAD Pharmacy, and the Provincial Health Office. Their collective commitment underscores the importance of multi-sectoral collaboration in solving the complex challenges currently facing the provincial health system.

Local officials candidly acknowledged the remaining obstacles in the healthcare network while expressing deep appreciation for the participating pharmacists. The shared goal is to deliver competent service and utmost convenience, ensuring that every Ilonggo patient receives the quality care and medicines they truly deserve.

Strengthening Continuity of Care

Expanding the GAMOT network directly translates to better health outcomes for local communities. When patients can easily access free or subsidized medicines from nearby accredited pharmacies, they are more likely to adhere to their prescribed treatments and avoid severe medical complications down the line.

This initiative also significantly reduces the financial burden on low-income families who struggle to purchase basic medications. By fostering strong public-private partnerships, Iloilo is actively building a more resilient and inclusive healthcare ecosystem that responds effectively to the evolving needs of its constituents.
