PHILIPPINES — Israel’s Ministry of Tourism is turning its sights on the Philippines, inviting Filipino travelers to explore its ancient cities, deserts, and beaches. A recent seven‑day familiarization tour for Philippine and Singaporean travel agents signaled a serious push to grow arrivals from Southeast Asia.
A Familiarization Tour That Opens Eyes
The Israeli government curated an itinerary designed to shatter expectations. Travel agents journeyed through the stone alleyways of Jerusalem, floated in the Dead Sea, and explored the modern energy of Tel Aviv. A jeep tour tore through the Judean Desert, while a wine tasting in the Golan Heights revealed a side of Israel few Filipinos have seen.
Hassan Madah, international director of the ministry, said the goal was to show that Israel is more than pilgrimages. “We welcome you all. Israel is open to everyone,” he told the visiting agents. The message was deliberate: the country wants travelers to experience its full range of attractions and to feel safe doing so.
Visa‑Free Convenience
One of the strongest selling points for Filipinos is the absence of a visa requirement. Philippine passport holders can enter Israel visa‑free for up to 59 days, a rare privilege that removes a major travel barrier. For many, that single fact turns a distant dream into a bookable itinerary.
The ministry is also pushing for direct flights between Manila and Tel Aviv. Currently, travelers must transit through Gulf hubs, adding hours and cost. Philippine transport officials are in talks with airlines to make a non‑stop route a reality, a move that would dramatically cut travel time and open Israel to a broader range of Filipino tourists.
Faith and Beyond: The Philippine Market
The Philippines has been identified as a priority market, alongside India, China, and South Korea. Faith‑based travel remains the primary driver, with thousands of Filipinos making the pilgrimage to the Holy Land each year. But the ministry wants to broaden that appeal to include adventure, leisure, and culinary tourism.
Anna Oraiza Aban, the ministry’s marketing manager in the Philippines, said visa‑free access makes spontaneous trips possible. A Filipino family planning a vacation can now consider Israel alongside more traditional Asian destinations. The Department of Tourism has signed a joint declaration with Israel to promote two‑way travel, signaling official support for the growing connection.
Safety and the Road Ahead
Madah assured potential visitors that Israel remains safe for tourists. The ministry is strengthening partnerships through regional events like ITB Asia in Singapore and working closely with Philippine travel agencies to build confidence. For Filipino travelers, the combination of visa‑free entry, expanding flight options, and a diverse tourism offering makes Israel an increasingly attractive destination.
