Strengthening Rabies Prevention and Control
BOHOL - The Provincial Government of Bohol, under the leadership of Governor Aris Aumentado, is working to strengthen rabies prevention and control measures through the crafting of the Implementing Rules and Regulations of the Bohol Rabies Eradication Council. The discussions focused on reviewing and enhancing existing anti-rabies guidelines to make prevention, response, and control measures more effective. By establishing updated rules and clearer procedures, the initiative aims to strengthen the province's coordinated response to rabies and reduce the risk of fatal incidents involving the disease.
Building Stronger Coordination Among Agencies
The discussions brought together BM Nanay Lucille Lagunay, representatives from the Office of the Provincial Veterinarian, Bohol Provincial Health Office, Department of Health–Bohol, Gov. Celestino Gallares Memorial Hospital, and other stakeholders. Their participation reflects the importance of cooperation between health, veterinary, government, and community partners in addressing rabies. The proposed IRR is expected to provide a more organized framework for implementing prevention and control measures, helping ensure that both animal welfare and public health concerns are addressed through coordinated action.

The development of updated rabies guidelines forms part of Bohol's broader efforts to promote a safer and healthier province. Stronger prevention, timely response, responsible animal care, and improved coordination can help reduce the risks associated with rabies while protecting communities and their pets. Through the initiative, the Provincial Government continues to advance health and animal welfare programs under its Strategic Change Agenda, supporting its goal of building a smart, resilient, inclusive, and sustainable province and strengthening the Bohol Island UNESCO Global Geopark as a regenerative island.
