MAKATI CITY — Philippine coffee enthusiasts have a new destination to explore as Key Coffee officially opened its Ginza Salon at Glorietta Makati. Inspired by the sophistication of Tokyo’s renowned Ginza district, the new branch introduces a café concept that goes beyond traditional coffee service, combining premium brews with upscale Wagyu dishes for a more elevated dining experience.
A Legacy of Japanese Coffee Excellence
Founded in 1920, Key Coffee has long been recognized as one of Japan’s most respected coffee brands. At the heart of its offerings are the renowned Toarco Toraja beans, sourced from the mountainous regions of Sulawesi, Indonesia. These beans are prized for their rich body, layered flavor profile, and subtle spicy notes, making them a favorite among dedicated coffee lovers. In addition to its signature Japanese offerings, the Glorietta location also showcases a locally inspired dark roast crafted from Philippine-grown coffee beans. The blend demonstrates how Japanese coffee-making expertise can be combined with locally sourced ingredients to create a distinctive drinking experience.
Coffee Appreciation in Bento Form
One of the highlights of the menu is the Coffee Bento Flight, a carefully curated tasting experience presented in a bento-style format. The concept allows guests to sample a variety of brews while exploring differences in origin, roasting methods, and flavor characteristics. Rather than simply serving coffee, the experience encourages customers to engage more deeply with the craft, transforming each cup into an opportunity for discovery and appreciation.
Premium Wagyu Takes Center Stage
Complementing the coffee program is a menu built around premium Wagyu selections. Among the standout offerings is the Wagyu Yakiniku Bento, which features marinated Wagyu striploin prepared teppanyaki-style. Designed as a complete dining experience, the dish combines the elegance of Japanese presentation with the rich, savory flavors of expertly grilled Wagyu beef. According to Marvin Chua, Vice President of Operations at Boosterfoods Inc., the local partner behind Key Coffee’s Philippine expansion, Makati was a natural choice for the brand’s debut. “We see Makati City as the Ginza of the Philippines because of the business district and the upscale lifestyle here,” Chua said.
A New Gathering Place for Coffee Lovers
More than just another café, Key Coffee Ginza Salon aims to become a destination for guests who value both the ritual of coffee drinking and the precision of Japanese culinary craftsmanship. Situated in the heart of Glorietta, the café is conveniently located within Makati’s vibrant commercial and business district, making it accessible to professionals, shoppers, and tourists alike. The salon offers visitors an opportunity to slow down, savor expertly prepared coffee, and enjoy a dining experience that blends the refined atmosphere of Tokyo’s Ginza with the dynamic energy of Makati.
