This sentiment forms the core of his latest single, “Alitaptap,” a deeply personal track rooted in his childhood in Calubian, Leyte, and now available across major digital streaming platforms.
From Leyte Evenings to the City Lights
Before navigating the fast-paced music scene, Waltz—whose full name is John Walter Dumagan—grew up surrounded by the natural glow of real fireflies lighting up Leyte’s evenings. Years later, while carving out his career, the artist began viewing those insects through a new lens. In a world that often felt overwhelming, he noticed how certain individuals appeared briefly to lend support during difficult stretches before quietly moving on.
“Marami akong na-meet na parang alitaptap sa buhay ko,” Waltz shared in a release. “Hindi sila laging nandiyan, pero noong nandiyan sila, doon ako na-buo.”

Rooted deeply in his Bisaya-Waray heritage, Waltz made the deliberate choice to sing “Alitaptap” in Tagalog to reach the broadest possible audience across the archipelago. The single, released under Ant Savvy Artist Management (AS Creatives & Entertainment Inc.) and distributed via Symphonic, carries a subtle, vulnerable tone rather than a dramatic declaration, framing love and support as a gentle request and a quiet presence.
Complementing the release, Waltz launched the interactive campaign #AkingAlitaptap, inviting listeners across the country to share personal stories of the unsung heroes who served as their light during challenging times. Waltz first discovered his passion for singing at just three years old. He formally entered the music industry in 2018 as part of the group Down by 18 before launching his solo career in 2023.
