PHILIPPINES — A new transit lounge for overseas Filipino workers has opened at Terminal 3 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, offering a comfortable place to rest for departing and arriving OFWs. The Overseas Workers Welfare Administration opened the facility in partnership with New NAIA Infra Corp.
A Comfortable Space for Modern-Day Heroes
The lounge features beds and massage chairs, accommodating up to 26 OFWs at a time. The maximum stay is three hours to ensure more workers can benefit from the facility. This thoughtfully designed space provides much-needed rest for travelers enduring long journeys.
The facility is part of the expansion of OFW lounges under President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s administration. Similar lounges already operate at NAIA Terminal 1, Mactan-Cebu International Airport, and Clark International Airport. The initiative reflects the government's commitment to improving airport experiences for Filipino migrant workers.
Who Can Use the Lounge
Eligible users include OFWs departing for work abroad or those who have just arrived and have a connecting domestic flight at NAIA Terminal 3. Workers must present documents proving their OFW status and confirming their travel arrangements. Existing lounge policies govern the use of the facility.
OWWA Administrator Patricia Yvonne "PY" Caunan said the agency continues to improve airport facilities to provide OFWs a proper and comfortable place to rest while waiting for their flights. She acknowledged the effort and sacrifice that comes with their journey.
Caunan also thanked NNIC for its collaboration in opening the facility. She emphasized that through government and private sector cooperation, the airport experience for OFWs continues to improve.
Assistance for Distressed OFWs
Distressed OFWs who have just arrived and need help may approach the OWWA Airport Arrival Assistance Desk at the arrival area after Customs at NAIA Terminals 1 and 3. The desk provides assistance with transportation, food, or temporary accommodation in accordance with OWWA rules.
This support system ensures that returning workers facing difficulties receive immediate help. The arrival assistance desk serves as a crucial safety net for those who may encounter unexpected challenges during their return to the country.
OWWA said it will continue collaborating with NNIC and other partners to improve facilities and services supporting OFWs in their departure from and return to the country. These ongoing efforts demonstrate a sustained commitment to migrant worker welfare.
A Growing Network of OFW Lounges
The new NAIA Terminal 3 lounge joins a growing network of dedicated spaces for OFWs across major Philippine airports. These facilities recognize the unique needs of migrant workers who often endure long layovers and connecting flights.
By providing comfortable rest areas, the government addresses a practical concern for OFWs while honoring their contributions to the national economy. The lounges represent tangible appreciation for the sacrifices made by Filipino workers abroad.
The continued expansion of these facilities signals a broader recognition that OFW welfare extends beyond employment contracts and remittances. Comfort during travel is part of respecting the dignity of every modern-day hero.
