PHILIPPINES — More than 211,000 Filipinos have opened bank accounts without needing a physical ID, just one month after LANDBANK and the Overseas Filipino Bank (OFBank) rolled out their National ID-enabled digital onboarding service. The surge reflects a strong demand for accessible financial services, especially among overseas workers and their families.
A Milestone for Digital Onboarding
The achievement was highlighted during the ceremonial signing of the National ID Authentication Services (NIDAS) Subscription Contract on August 14, 2026 at LANDBANK Plaza in Malate, Manila. The agreement formalizes a whole-of-government approach to secure identity verification. It involves LANDBANK, OFBank, the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).
The new system, launched in July, allows clients to open accounts using LANDBANK and OFBank’s mobile apps or digital websites. Real-time verification powered by the PSA eliminates the need to present or upload physical government-issued IDs. This removes a major barrier to financial inclusion for millions of Filipinos.
OFBank's Vital Role for OFWs
For overseas Filipinos, the initiative holds particular significance. OFBank, the country’s first branchless, digital-only bank, is designed to serve Filipinos abroad and their families. The new ID-free account opening makes it simpler, faster, and more convenient for OFWs to manage their finances from anywhere in the world.
OFBank President and CEO Leila C. Martin emphasized that secure and reliable identity verification, powered by the National ID System, now bridges the distance between overseas workers and their banking needs. This service empowers OFWs to open accounts without the usual logistical hurdles of submitting physical documents. It strengthens their connection to the Philippine financial system.
A Whole-of-Government Push for Digital Identity
LANDBANK President and CEO Lynette V. Ortiz highlighted the collaborative effort behind the milestone. She noted that leveraging technology with OFBank, PSA, and DICT makes banking accessible to every Filipino. Real-time National ID verification marks a major step in digital transformation and reinforces LANDBANK’s leadership in driving financial inclusion.
PSA Assistant Secretary Rosalinda P. Bautista underscored the importance of trusted identity authentication in building the digital economy. She stated that secure identity checks are at the heart of secure digital transactions. The success of this initiative demonstrates what institutions can achieve when they come together with a shared purpose.
Leading the Way in Financial Inclusion
By adopting NIDAS as the primary proof of identity, LANDBANK and OFBank are advancing the government’s digital transformation agenda. The rapid uptake of 211,000 accounts within one month proves the strong demand for such services. This program directly benefits OFWs, their families, and all Filipinos seeking convenient, secure banking solutions.
