ORMOC CITY, PHILIPPINES — Mayor Lucy Torres-Gomez recently visited the newly rehabilitated PhilSports Complex in Pasig City to tour its upgraded athletic venues and gather design insights as Ormoc City develops its own local sports facilities.

During her visit, Mayor Torres-Gomez toured key sites across the historical sports venue, which was originally known as the University of Life Theater and Recreational Arena (ULTRA). The comprehensive rehabilitation of the complex—spearheaded by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos—has restored and modernized several core facilities:
PhilSports Arena: Main indoor venue modernized for multi-sport events and international competitions.
Aquatics & Housing Infrastructure: Upgraded Swimming Center alongside modernized lodging at the PhilSports Villa.
Athlete Support & Heritage Facilities: Dedicated National Athlete Center and the integrated Philippine Sports Museum.
Inspiration for Ormoc's Sports Development
Reflecting on the tour, Mayor Torres-Gomez highlighted the importance of heritage, municipal stewardship, and honoring historic venues while building modern infrastructure for future generations of athletes. Emphasizing the transformation of the complex, she encouraged more sports enthusiasts and the general public to visit the modernized facility. The insights gained from the PhilSports visit will help inform Ormoc City's ongoing planning for its own public sports and recreational facilities.
